Hi We are looking at our son going into supported living after he finishes collage. His been a Monday to Friday weekly boarder at college and once in supported living we would like to still have home most weekends . My question is ,if we were to have him home Friday evening to Sunday evening would I still be able to claim my carers allowance for the weekends like I do now while his college.
Im sure you would as you would be looking after him for more than 35 hours per week.
That’s my thoughts . But wondered because he would be supported and social services would be paying for 7 days a week somewhere for him, and it will be our choice to have him home each weekend does that throw a different light on things I’m wondering
Hello HellO,
My understanding is that any changes must be reported. If you support your son for 35 hours or more a week nothing should change regarding the carers allowance anyway, but it is better to inform them of any change. The below links will explain more, the third link includes the phone contact numbers: https://www.gov.uk/carers-allowance-report-change https://www.gov.uk/carers-allowance-unit
Hope that is of some help.
Please share the website and blog detailing the inadequate care and support provided to my vulnerable autistic brother. Thank you.
