Hello, my sister has been receiving direct payments for a number of years. To be honest, we have struggled to utilise the full amount each month-mainly because we were very unclear about what we could and could not spend it on. We were being told on a regular basis that we should be spending the full amount otherwise it will be taken away from us. In the end we used it for my mum to take my sister away or for expenditure related to activities to do with her day centre. Earlierthis year received a letter to say that the direct payments would bestopped. We have always provided receipts of expenditure. Today we received a letter asking for us to return nearly £500 which covered the cost for my mum to take my sister to Ireland-my mum has family there and it provides her with a break as they help with support. At no time did anyone say we could not use it for this. Would appreciate any advice anyone could offer on this matter, could do without it 2 weeks before Xmas. Thanks.
I have just received my son’s review result for his personal budget, very confusing! so I asked them to provide an exact breakdown of the payment and how much I was to pay for each item, which they have done. Perhaps the social worker who deals with your sister can provide you a clear breakdown for you. hope this helps
When we had the same problem I just put down Respite Care with one carer, this was accepted sent flight and accommodation reciepts ( no food) self catering .hope this helps
Thanks for your reply - appreciate it.
Thanks for your reply. We have always sent receipts etc but I will explain the respite aspect. Thanks very much.
Hello @DebbieC How did you get on with this? Did you get any clarification about what you can and cannot use the direct payments for? Many thanks Sarah
