Hello everybody, I’m not sure I am in the right place to be honest but can’t seem to find anywhere that is. I see the website is mainly about learning disabilities and independent living, supported housing etc.
What I am after hoping someone can’t point me in the right direction is that me and my partner have a son who is disabled, he’s 10 years old and has quad cerebral palsy and epilepsy, can’t walk or speak and in a wheelchair. We are trapped in social housing, we don’t work as we claim carers as we are both 24 hour carers for our son. We currently with social housing and now in a two bed bungalow that is way too small for us and equipment, but we had no choice to accept it as we were in a 3 bed house before and they told us we could have adaptions done there only to be told 12 months later that they won’t do it, this was just weeks before our son’s major hip reconstruction surgery, so he had to live in a hospital bed in the front room, they put a tiny extension on a single bedroom at the bungalow just so we could get a double bed in our room as our son had to take the larger room for his bed and all his equipment. The wheelchair currently lives in the bathroom… anyway to cut a long story short the way they have treated is us beyond belief and we have tried and tried to get us moved again because also there’s anti social behaviour been going on in the 4 years we have lived here preventing us from taking our son in our own massive back garden! We e had housing, police, social services and even citizens advice all involved and still they don’t care! There is a serious lack of housing, our council sold all their housing stock to social housing so nothing they can do. Any help would be appreciative, I know there’s many people in this situation out there but doesn’t seem to be any answers, we can’t afford our own home and stuck in this never ending circle that it’s made my partner ill, and reflecting on our caring duties.
