I would appreciate the views and comments of the people who read the Mencap FamilyHub, on a particular sentence a care home manager wrote to me.
In my understanding, guidelines, regulations and legislation regarding care homes say that manager’s and staff should keep accurate and detailed records of the clients under their care; both medical and general.
Below is what the care home manager wrote to me, (I have redacted name and personal activity info).
"I don’t believe in documenting every aspect of a person’s day- it is quite institutional practice and unnecessary- however, as you raised the issue, I added it to his planner so that you could see that ****** enjoys *** ******.
Do you believe, as I do, the manager’s statement above is an easy excuse for continuing the practice of poor record keeping, and it conflicts with guidelines, regulations and legislation?
